HTC Desire 200 officially launched with a 3.5-inch display and Beats Audio

HTC has just officially announced its latest budget offering, the HTC Desire 200.
We heard yesterday about an upcoming new budget Android smartphone from HTC that was leaked before it had been announced and even starred in a hands on video.

The Desire 200's spec list includes a 3.5-inch 480x320 touchscreen on its face along with a 5-megapixel camera around back. Crammed inside the handset's smallish frame is a 1GHz Snapdragon S1 processor, 4GB storage, microSD card slot for additional memory and 512MB RAM. There's also support for 7.2Mbps HSPA, and a 1,230mAh battery powers the entire package. Rounding out the feature list is an undisclosed version of Android running beneath HTC's Sense overlay and an "Intelligent Display" feature that HTC says will automatically resize text for easier viewing, store articles for offline viewing and allow users to zoom in and dial a phone number with a single step.

The removable 1,230 mAh battery is promised to provide users up to 7.5 hours of 3G talk time or 812 hours of standby. Connectivity comes in the form of Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, microUSB, and 3G HSDPA.

Pricing and availability of the HTC Desire 200 are unknown at this point, but it’s just a matter of time until major retailers and carriers are ready to share this info.

HTC Desire 200 leaks online

An image of what’s said to be the HTC Desire 200 has leaked online along with detailed specs.
The handset looks to be a budget offering from the Taiwanese manufacturer, sharing more than a few design queues with the existent Desire C. It’s unclear when the handset will launch and there’s currently no word on pricing either.

Specs include a 3.5-inch, 320 x 480 resolution LCD, 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB storage space with microSD card slot and a 1,400mAh battery, reports suggest.
Running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich it is also unclear whether the device will eventually launch on Jelly Bean or remain on version 4.0.3 once released.

Looking at the specs and overall design and finish of the handset, we could be looking at a sub-£150 handset here. Providing the handset even launches in the UK that is – it could well be an emerging-market-only release designed to do battle with Nokia and Samsung’s low-price smartphones.
